Decisions we made, including the ones we reversed.

Three tests before anything is published here: it is about a decision we actually made, somebody who does this work could disagree with it, and it contains at least one thing we got wrong.

A release you cannot reverse is not a release

A container terminal has no maintenance window, so every deployment goes out while ships are alongside. That single constraint decides more about the architecture than any technology choice we made.

Who writes this

The engineers who built and still run the systems described on this site.

These are published under the company name rather than under an engineer's. That is a gap rather than a house style. An article like this is worth more with a name on it, and we would rather say that than invent one.

You do not need to arrive with a perfect technical specification.

Start with the problem. Tell us what is slowing the business down, what you want to build, or where the current system is failing. We will tell you the shortest path forward, including when that path is not us.
